The Point: Changes to 91/Perris Valley Line and Riverside Line schedules start October 14 and 19

You asked, we listened!  Metrolink and the Riverside County Transportation Commission are responding to customer feedback by adjusting train schedules to help riders reach their destinations easier this fall. Changes start in mid-October for the 91/Perris Valley Line and the Riverside Line, so grab your coziest sweater and climb aboard.

The big news is that weekend service is starting October 19 from the Perris Valley. Riders from the Perris-South, Perris-Downtown, Moreno Valley/March Field, and Riverside-Hunter Park/UCR Stations now can ride on Saturdays and Sundays to Los Angeles Union Station, Fullerton, and other destinations.  Enjoy fall festivities in downtown LA, including Dia de los Muertos on Olvera Street, the MathAlive! exhibit at the California Science Center, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Natural History Museum, and more. Check out the new weekend schedule:

Remember that your Metrolink ticket is only $10 on weekends and is good for free connections to Metro Rail, allowing you to extend your travels.

Commuters to and from Los Angeles and Orange County will have more options on the 91/Perris Valley Line.  Weekday schedule changes also begin October 14:

  • Train 701 will leave 13 minutes earlier from Riverside County stations to reach L.A. Union Station by 6:45 a.m., 20 minutes ahead of its current 7:05 a.m. arrival. This change is in response to riders who asked for an earlier train to reach their jobs in L.A. by 7 a.m.
  • Morning service on train 707 (currently train 731) will continue to L.A from its current ending point in Riverside-Downtown. The train will leave 21 minutes earlier from stations in the Perris Valley and arrive at Riverside-Downtown at 7:14 a.m. for Riverside employees. The train will continue west and provide new service for Riverside and Corona riders to L.A. Union Station, arriving at 8:45 a.m. This will provide a fourth morning train for commuters to L.A.
  • A new afternoon train will run from Los Angeles to the Perris Valley. Train 708 will leave L.A. Union Station at 5 p.m. and arrive at the Perris-South Station at 7:15 p.m. This fifth afternoon train will offer another option for this peak travel time and relieve overcrowding on the 4:20 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. trains.
  • Late morning and midday trains 732, 733, 734, 735, and 736, which now travel only between the Perris Valley and the Riverside-Downtown Station, will be eliminated to allow for the above service changes. Ridership has been low on these trains.

See the new weekday schedule below and learn more about the schedule updates.

In addition, on the Riverside Line, due to customer feedback, trains will leave earlier to reach L.A. by 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. Make sure to arrive early so you don’t miss your train!

The Riverside County Transportation Commission is funding the weekday service changes. The new 91/Perris Valley Line weekend schedule is being funded in part by a Caltrans Low-Carbon Transit Operations Program grant that was awarded to RCTC.  The grant is designed to help agencies reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve mobility, with a priority on serving disadvantaged communities.
