The Point: Account holders should log in to their account to request new sticker transponders

The state of California is changing the transponder technology that has been in place since the early 1990s to a new battery-free transponder. Toll facilities across California are transitioning to the new transponder technology. The 91 Express Lanes is one of the first to roll out the new transponders.

If you have a 91 Express Lanes account, you will receive an email asking you to visit to initiate the replacement of your transponders. Don’t want to wait for your email? Log in to your account now and use the online wizard to walk you through some simple steps:

  • Confirm or update your address.
  • Confirm or update your vehicle information. A free sticker transponder will be mailed for every vehicle on your account.
  • Confirm or select an account plan from the new user-friendly plans.
  • Agree to the new account agreement and privacy policy.

After you complete the wizard, you will receive your new sticker transponders by mail.

Using the new sticker is easy:

  • Follow the instructions in the packet to properly adhere the sticker to the inside of each of your windshields.
  • You can use the sticker transponder on any toll bridge, toll road or express lane in California.
  • If you have a switchable transponder you use for carpool discounts, keep it. You can still move the switchable transponder from vehicle to vehicle even if that vehicle has a sticker.
  • If you drive a vehicle with a metal oxide windshield or a motorcycle, we have a new external sticker transponder. Please request this special sticker by calling the customer service center at 800-600-9191.

Don’t delay! The sticker transponders are only being provided free to existing customers for a short period of time.
