All the equipment and materials needed to paint have been picked up. Thanks to feedback from the community, the Riverside-La Sierra Metrolink Station recently received a subtle, yet new paint job.

As part of routine maintenance, the Riverside-La Sierra station was identified as needing new paint. To determine the next color of the station, RCTC polled Metrolink riders and residents near the station and asked them to select a new color scheme amongst various options. The series of polls were conducted on social media, in-person at the station, and through the agency’s website. The winning color combination was a new blue and beige color scheme. This is not the first time the station has changed its colors – throughout the years, the station has undergone color changes to keep up with the times (and as part of routine maintenance).

The station made its debut during the opening of the IEOC on October 2, 1995. With multiple bus bays to accommodate RTA and OCTA buses, the station offers seamless connections to transport travelers to destinations in Riverside County and across southern California. The station also features a spacious Park and Ride lot, making it a great meeting place for rideshare options.

The Riverside-La Sierra Metrolink Station in 2012

RCTC owns and operates all nine Metrolink stations in Riverside County and improvements are consistently being made to ensure a positive experience for riders. These improvements and station maintenance are made possible thanks to federal, state, and local funding sources such as Measure A; the twice voter-approved half-cent sales tax measure for transportation improvements in Riverside County.

RCTC is also nearing completion of the Moreno Valley/March Field Station Improvement Project and is planning several future transit projects across the county, including the recently announced Mead Valley Metrolink Station and Mobility Hub Project. These investments in our region’s public transportation network are part of RCTC’s goal of enhancing passenger rail and bus service to relieve traffic congestion and improve air quality for the residents of Riverside County.

The Riverside County Transportation Commission has completed its expansion of the Riverside-La Sierra Metrolink Station, making it easier for train riders and other transit users to access the station and park before continuing their commutes. RCTC, which operates the stations in Riverside County, began work on the project last spring, and substantially completed the improvements in mid-December.

The project added 442 parking spaces, six new bus bays, and a signalized intersection with Indiana Avenue. The new lot includes Park & Ride facilities located northeast of the existing station.

The Riverside Transit Agency started using the new bus bays on January 13th. The bays support RTA’s western county operations and its CommuterLink Express service, which recently completed its first year of service. As part of the 91 Project, RCTC made a commitment for multimodal options, and RTA’s Route 200 uses the 91 Express Lanes to carry riders on express buses between Riverside and Orange. The Riverside-La Sierra Station, located just south of the 91 Express Lanes, offers a convenient location to board the CommuterLink Express.

Crews placed new asphalt-concrete pavement and pavers, built curbs and sidewalks, and added a traffic signal and landscaped the area.

Construction is under way to expand the Riverside-La Sierra Metrolink Station, making it easier for train riders and other transit users to access the station and park before continuing their commutes. Work began this spring and is expected to be completed this fall.

The project will add 442 parking spaces, six new bus bays, and a signalized driveway onto Indiana Avenue. The expansion is taking place northeast of the existing station on a 4.69-acre vacant lot between State Route 91 and Indiana Avenue. The Riverside County Transportation Commission owns the vacant lot. RCTC also owns and operates all of the Metrolink stations in Riverside County.

The Riverside-La Sierra Station, located just east of the 91 Express Lanes, offers a convenient location to board the CommuterLink Express.

Crews for the station expansion have completed the asphalt-concrete work, which will be followed by the placement of pavers for the parking spaces. Crews currently are building the concrete curb and sidewalk and the east side of the bus aisle. Work on the traffic signal is scheduled to start in August.

The Point: Station Improvements Make it Easier to Ride Metrolink

The Riverside County Transportation Commission is updating both of its Riverside Metrolink stations to create a more user-friendly train experience. Work is starting this week on the Riverside-La Sierra Station, and work completed last week on the Riverside-Downtown Station.

RCTC is mobilizing crews this week at the Riverside-La Sierra Station at 10901 Indiana Avenue to add 446 parking spaces, six bus bays, and a traffic signal to provide easier access to and from Indiana Avenue. The parking spaces will be added to an adjacent 4.7-acre vacant lot owned by RCTC that is northeast of the existing station, between State Route 91 and Indiana Avenue. Construction is scheduled to be complete in October.

Work is expected to be limited to daytime hours. Lane closures may be needed to restripe Indiana Avenue, but no full street closures are planned. Residents may direct inquiries to RCTC at (951) 787-7141 or info@rctc.org.

Improvements to the Riverside-Downtown Station at 4066 Vine Street began in September and include new Americans with Disabilities Act parking, relocated and upgraded ticket vending machines, and construction of three new bus bays, increasing the number to five. This work was completed April 27.

The total cost to upgrade both stations is $5.1 million. Funding is provided by federal sources and property sale proceeds.

Further east, plans are under way to add shade canopies to the three stations served by Metrolink’s 91/Perris Valley Line – the Riverside-Hunter Park/UCR Station, the Moreno Valley/March Field Station, and the Perris-Downtown Station. The shade canopies will provide a welcome respite from the sun as passengers wait to board the train.

Canopy installation is scheduled to start this week and be completed by November 2018. The project construction cost is $2.5 million and is funded by federal grants and by Measure A, the voter-approved half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements in Riverside County.
