More bus riders than ever are enjoying life in the 91 Express Lanes, thanks to the Riverside Transit Agency’s (RTA) CommuterLink Express Route 200.

Since launching the service in January 2018, RTA has seen a steady growth in ridership. The number of passengers has grown from 385 to 625 per day, a jump of 62 percent. The first half of the year averaged more than 12,000 boardings each month, while the second half of the year averaged nearly 16,000 monthly boardings.

UPDATE: NEW FSP SERVICE BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2018

The Riverside County Transportation Commission is expanding its Freeway Service Patrol this September along Interstate 15 and Interstate 215 with new funding from the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, more commonly known as the “gas tax.”

Gas tax revenue totaling $1.6 million will allow the roadside assistance program to extend:

27 miles on I-15 from Indian Truck Trail to Temecula Parkway/79-South in Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Murrieta and Temecula

12 miles on I-215 from Ethanac Road to Murrieta Hot Springs Road in Menifee, Wildomar and Murrieta

They also tow vehicles to preapproved locations – all free of charge.

Service will be provided during peak commute times: Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The program marked its 25th anniversary of FSP operations on June 28. The roving tow truck operators provide an average of 40,000 “assists” per year. The service expansion to southwestern Riverside County this September will boost coverage to 140 miles, including sections of roadways further north on I-15, I-215, State Routes 60 and 91, and the 91 Express Lanes.

Riverside and San Bernardino County residents who ride the Riverside Transit Agency’s CommuterLink Express Route 200 to the Happiest Place on Earth don’t have to head home before the nightly fireworks show any longer. RTA has added a late bus on this route, which now departs Disneyland at 10:15 p.m., seven days a week.

Route 200 uses the 91 Express Lanes to bypass traffic congestion and provide a more reliable trip. The Riverside County Transportation Commission purchased the Route 200 buses as part of the 91 Project, fulfilling a promise to expand public transit options with the 91 Express Lanes. RCTC is funding the first two years of operations of Route 200 with Measure A, the voter-approved half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements in Riverside County.

For $3 or less round trip, Inland Empire commuters can connect from the San Bernardino Transit Center to various stops in Riverside, the Village at Orange, Angel Stadium and Disneyland. Lower fares are available for children, seniors and riders with disabilities. Service includes free Wi-Fi, charging ports and comfortable seats.

Since it began in January, Route 200 has seen a steady increase in ridership. During its first month, ridership hovered around 2,500 boardings per week. Since then, ridership has climbed 40 percent to roughly 3,500 each week, and summer ridership has grown as high as 3,700 boardings per week.

More good news is on the way. In September, RTA plans to add another afternoon trip on Route 200 that will depart Disneyland at about 4 p.m., giving customers and cast members another reason to trade their car keys for a bus pass.

Additionally, western Riverside County residents and San Bernardino County residents can apply to receive $2/day incentives for riding Route 200 to work. For more information about ways to improve your commute, please visit IECommuter, a service of RCTC and the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority.

Starting January 14, Riverside and San Bernardino County residents will have another option for reliable, reduced-stress travel on the State Route 91 corridor.

Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) Route 200 will connect the new San Bernardino Transit Center with Disneyland and points in between using CommuterLink express buses featuring Wi-Fi, charging ports, and comfortable seats.

Route 200 will make stops in downtown Riverside (Lemon St./University Ave.), Riverside-Downtown Metrolink station, the Galleria at Tyler, Riverside-La Sierra Metrolink station, and the Village at Orange before arriving at Disneyland.

The express buses will utilize the 91 Express Lanes in Riverside and Orange counties to bypass traffic congestion and provide a more reliable trip. Route 200 buses were purchased by RCTC as part of the 91 Project, fulfilling a key promise to expand public transit alternatives in the 91 corridor with the new express lanes. RCTC is funding the initial two years of operations of Route 200 with voter-approved Measure A funds.

Lower fares are available for children, seniors and disabled customers. Additionally, western Riverside County residents and San Bernardino County residents can apply to receive $2/day incentives for riding Route 200 to work. These fares offer a considerably lower cost of travel compared to other modes of travel along the 91 corridor and parking fees travelers may encounter at their destinations.
