RCTC has long demonstrated a strong commitment to assist the mobility of those with special transit needs. Through the Specialized Transit Program, RCTC has provided millions of dollars to public and non-profit transit operators for the provision of specialized transit services to improve the mobility and independence of seniors and persons with disabilities. It is through this program that:

  • Someone who is disabled can go to work on his or her own
  • Someone who is aged can shop at the neighborhood grocery
  • Someone who is low on money can get to the doctor

The Specialized Transit Program is funded by Measure A, Riverside County's half-cent sales tax for transportation. It provides funding for innovative programs like those listed below plus funding for additional specialized transit services operated by public and non-profit providers.

Programs include:

Mobility Training for the Disabled

Provides travel training assistance for the disabled and visually impaired. Telephone: (951) 341-9244 and at www.blindnesssupport.com.

Transportation Access Program (TAP)

Administered by the Volunteer Center of Riverside County, TAP distributes bus tickets to over 160 social service agencies that then distribute those tickets to thousands of the truly needy requiring access to medical appointments, job interviews or other needed services. Telephone: (951) 686-4402.

Transportation Reimbursement and Information Project (TRIP)

TRIP provides information to seniors and persons with disabilities on the availability of transportation, including brochures and schedules for all specialized transit services. If you would like to talk with a real person about your transportation options, please call 1 (800) 510-202.

TRIP also provides mileage reimbursements to volunteer drivers of people unable to use other transportation services. Qualifications for assistance are determined through an application procedure administered by the Partnership to Preserve Independent Living for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities. To find out if TRIP reimbursement might be suitable for you or to volunteer as an escort/driver, call 1 (800) 510-2020 and or go online to www.livingpartnership.org.
