Locally Preferred Alternative Selected for Perris Valley Line

A new locally preferred alternative (LPA) was selected as part of the federal grant requirements and input received from the project.  The former alternative incorporated part of the Union Pacific (UP) line in Riverside near Rustin Avenue.  The UP alternative created the need for business relocations and also presented significant noise impacts to an adjacent mobile home park.

The new LPA is located on the Burlington North Santa Fe (BNSF) line at Citrus Avenue. This alternative became a viable alternative due to the Federal Environmental Process and input from the public.  The selection of the new LPA relocates the proposed Spruce Station further north to the new Palmyrita Station.  With this move further north, the benefits to the business community is enhanced  and the impacts to the residential community are minimized.

The Palmyrita Station will serve the nearby Hunter Park/Hunter Technology Center and Highgrove community and will eliminate the Spruce Station which was located too close to the proposed University of California at Riverside Station.
