The 2014 Small Business Expo is in the early stages of planning. The date and location of the event to be determined.
Four Riverside County transportation agencies have joined forces with a common goal to increase opportunities for disadvantaged, small and veteran businesses. Caltrans-District 8, Riverside County Transportation Department (RCTD), The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) have partnered to increase opportunities for local businesses. The four agencies are committed to supporting, promoting and strengthening the marketability of these businesses with prime contractors/consultants and public agencies specifically within the transportation community. With RCTC as the lead coordinating agency, the agencies planned and hosted the second Small Business Expo on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Moreno Valley Conference Center.
This Expo built upon the success of RCTC’s first Small Business Expo held on November 29, 2012 at the same venue. This second Expo was designed to expand the reach to Riverside County and Southern California businesses and to foster even greater networking opportunities for future proposals and bids.
The Small Business Expo was held as a combination of an exhibit hall and panel presentations, from 8 am to noon. The event program included a continental breakfast; exhibits and networking session; a panel session with information from senior executives about doing business with Riverside County agencies; a second panel session with information from prime contractors and prime consultants about how to build a winning team and winning proposal; and a question and answer session.

This year’s conference added a new feature - two resource kiosks were made available to attendees. One kiosk was provided for those seeking Small Business Enterprise/Disadvantaged Business Enterprise certification assistance. Representatives from Caltrans, the Department of Veterans Affairs and GCAP staffed this kiosk. The other kiosk offered vendor registration by the four partner agencies. RCTC staff provided guidance to register online to receive notice of future proposals and bids from RCTC, RCTD, RTA and Caltrans.
An event give-away tote bag was distributed to all attendees and contained an event program, DBE and SBE certification criteria flyer, Doing Business with RCTC brochure, Doing Business with RTA brochure, a list of upcoming projects compiled by the partner agencies, and a diagram of exhibitor assignments.
The event attracted more than 270 attendees and 33 sponsors and exhibitors.
