RCTC Adopts Mid County Preferred Route

The Riverside County Transportation Commission has adopted a locally preferred alignment for the Mid County Parkway that will be used to guide the upcoming environmental review process to be completed prior to construction.

The route has been presented to the public in the past along with other routes and has been referred to as Alternative 9 or the far-south alignment. The 32-mile corridor stretches from San Jacinto to Corona with much of the eastern portion of the road to be constructed adjacent to the Ramona Expressway. As the proposed road heads west, it shifts to the south and will travel through the City of Perris adjacent to Placentia Avenue and continue toward the I-15 through the Gavilan Hills.

La Sierra Interchange Breaks Ground

Construction on the State Route 91/La Sierra Interchange project will begin in October. The $38 million Measure A/TUMF project will widen La Sierra to three lanes in each direction over the 91 and improve access ramps to and from the freeway. The construction schedule projects completion of the project in mid-2009.

This will be the second Measure A freeway interchange project to be under construction on State Route 91. Caltrans and the City of Corona began construction on the Green River Drive Interchange earlier this year.

For more information on the La Sierra project, go to the City of Riverside's website. Information on the Green River project is available from Caltrans.

Contracts Signed for Freeway Projects

While most residents often measure freeway progress by the amount of construction, implementing a new project requires a great deal of work that is often invisible. This includes environmental analyses, design work, and acquisition of right-of-way.
